MountResilience - European Project
- Live
The European MountResilience project, supported by BlueArk as a demonstration case, is running over a period of five years and uses the ALTIS – Val de Bagnes territory as a test area. The initiative aims to create a decision-making tool for the sustainable management of water resources, to optimize water management in agriculture in mountainous regions. Currently, the project is focusing on in-depth data collection to develop innovative and adaptable solutions.
In line with the EU Mission on Climate Change Adaptation, MountResilience aims to strengthen the adaptive capacity of mountain regions and communities, promoting their transition to a climate-resilient society.
The focus is on accelerating climate-resilient transformation in 10 communities and regions by developing and testing climate change adaptation solutions. Six of the regions/communities in Austria (Tyrol), Bulgaria (Gabrovo), Romania (Râu Sadului), Switzerland (Valais), Finland (Lapland), and Italy (Piedmont) focus on various key community systems (tourism, agricultural water consumption, land use).
In addition to these demonstration regions, four other regions are acting as “replicator” regions, adapting the solutions and lessons learned from the demonstration regions to strengthen their own adaptation capacity.
The 10 regions and communities involved in MountResilience cover the European mountain biogeographical region, stretching from northwestern to southeastern Europe and including some of the continent’s highest peaks. By embracing the diversity of European mountain regions, the project is developing six demonstrators that integrate different perspectives, knowledge, experiences, and needs, thus creating a diverse set of tools for adapting to climate change. This approach aims to ensure the adaptability and applicability of the project’s results to different European contexts, facilitating knowledge transfer for the benefit of other mountain territories and beyond.
Who is working on this project now?
MountResilience involves 47 partners from 13 European countries and is led by the Department of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences (DISAA) – UNIMONT – University of Milan.
